Celebrity Reptiles are members of ACTA, The Animal Consultants and Trainers Association. This is the organisation which represents many of Europe's leading animal consultants and trainers and their veterinary surgeons.

ACTA members have vast experience in the field of media use of animals, whether stills, stage, advertising, television or film and are vetted prior to membership and operate to a strict animal welfare Code of Practice.

The major aims of ACTA are to promote and ensure the highest standards of safety and welfare in the preparation and supervision of animals for filming and photography, and its members subscribe to and actively promote the following aims:

I. At all times to ensure correct planning and preparation for each assignment, prior to any Animal being provided and expertly supervised for filming and photography.

II. At all times to examine in detail the requirements of each assignment and to advise prospective clients of the suitability and viability of the assignment with respect to the capabilities and welfare of the animal(s) envisaged.

III. At all times to ensure the highest quality Animal Husbandry when providing and supervising Animals for filming and photography.

As with all animal supply companies, the welfare of our animal collection is of the utmost importance to us. After all, without our cast of creatures, Celebrity Reptiles would not exist.

♣   We are an animal supply business that is registered and licensed under the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925 with The London Borough of Bromley.

♣   Celebrity Reptiles has Public Liability Insurance to the sum of £10 million, another must to safeguard any potential booker and their guests or visitors.

To obtain a Performing Animals Licence we are inspected by a City of London veterinary surgeon and the local authoriuty licensing team.

Any pet owner with a single cat or dog will also be aware of the importance and cost of using the ongoing services of a vet to ensure the well being of their animals.

This all involves no small cost to ourselves, therefore we follow some simple steps to ensure our cast of creatures is always as healthy as it can be by following The Five Freedoms.

Although not enshrined in law the Five Freedoms are very useful as ideals for judging animal welfare. They have been used for 30 years in farming and have been recently adapted in the Zoo Standards operated under the Zoo Licensing Act 1981:

• Freedom from hunger and thirst

• Freedom from discomfort

• Freedom from pain, injury & disease

• Freedom from fear & distress

• Freedom to express natural behaviour

The welfare of our animals is just as important when out and about meeting the public. For this reason, we always reserve the right to remove any animal from show or it's working environment if we feel that the individual animal or the environment is not conducive to their well being.

Just as Equity represents the talent in front of the camera and on the stage, BECTU is the professional body that looks after the guys behind the camera. From directors to cameramen to make up artists and of course, animal supply companies and their trainers/handlers.

Celebrity Reptiles are long term members of BECTU which means that along with our membership of ACTA assures any booker whether in the entertainment industry, live events world or schools and private bookers, the peace of mind that they are using the services of a professional, reputable company.
